Well, I'm sliding in under the wire again. Nothing like waiting until nearly the last minute. This month Tim featured his dimensional monster dies for the October tag. Appropriately festive for October to be sure. I made my own version featuring a festive… St. Nick?? Ha ha, I didn't have any of the monster dies so I jumped right over to Christmas themes and made do with the layered St. Nick die.
I should have taken an angled shot to show the layering; I curved the beard base shape, popped up the mustache and holly, and also popped up part of the hat. He ended up on the decidedly dimensional side! I also got to try out one of Eileen Hull's new Stitchlits dies down at the bottom of the tag. This particular die will cut patterned holes that you can then "stitch" to create a tactile border. I used wool embroidery floss here and it really adds a homey warmth to my cozy little Santa tag. You will be seeing a lot more to come with this collection! ;-)

BOO! – Halloween Decor
Hello there! I can't believe how quickly October is slipping by. Halloween is next weekend! Now that is scary. At least I got these done in time to enjoy them. I created a trio of little Halloween decor pieces using giant wooden spools (picked up at a rummage sale, score!) for the bases. These were a lot of fun to make! I love "shopping my stash". ;-)
Most of the dies and embellishments are from Tim Holtz with a few things from my local craft store thrown in. The good news is I still have four spools left! You'll be seeing those soon all decked out for Christmas. Now, how about some closeups of each one:
Crackle paint and glitter add lots of texture to this spool.
This one is sewing themed Halloween style. I was happy to find the Witch brand pins card in the Frightful Ephemera pack. I had some wee little skull beads and I glued one on the head of the pin too.
This black cat is covered in Black Soot Crackle Paint which gives it a great texture. A fun trick to alter Letterpress letters is to rub the letters with archival ink and sprinkle them with embossing powder (and emboss it of course!) It gives it an enameled look.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my latest projects! I'm going to be entering these into three challenges:
The Mixed Media Monthly Word Search Challenge. The words I used to inspire my project are Bat, Cat, Skull, Boo and Ghost.
I'm also entering the Anything But Cute "31 Days of Halloween" Challenge. Projects need to include the number 31 of which I have two.
AND, the Frilly and Funkie Something Wicked Challenge. I don't do really wicked projects so hopefully slightly spooky will suffice lol.

Art With Heart October Challenge: Hauntings & Holidays
My first project for the challenge was all about Hauntings so this time I'm focusing on the Holidays part. =) This month the team has been pairing Graphic 45's wonderful papers with Eileen Hull's dies to create a whole lotta seasonal magic. Be sure to peruse the weekly posts on Eileen's blog to see all the fabulous projects my teammates have been making. Your eyes just might pop out! Using the Christmas Carol Collection, I created a diptych for my contribution.
The fantastic imagery in G45's paper are perfect for fussy cutting and layering. I wanted to make a shadow box to showcase it. Eileen's Make It 3-D die is perfect for altering dies that you already have to take them from 2-D to 3-D. There are three different "make it 3-D" shapes you can use in various ways. I chose the part with multiple scores in it because it is perfect for fitting around curved edges (like the top of the arch). I used the Movers & Shapers Arch Frame to cut the backs and the Arch Frame plus the Sized Arch insert to make the front frame.
I pieced together parts of the 3-D strips to make them fit around the perimeter of the arch back and glued them into place:
Once I had glued in the background and layers of fussy cut pieces I glued the front frame on, hinged the two halves together and glued them onto the well glittered Doily base. (I used lots of Rock Candy Stickles and dry glitter in this wintry project!)
I hope you head on over to Eileen's blog to check out the inspirational projects my teammates have made. They will knock your socks off! Be sure to join in and get a chance to win a mystery prize pack of Sizzix wonderfulness. =) (So far, your chances are very good! Just sayin'…)
