Hello there! The Frilly & Funkie blog is having a Winter Hues Challenge and I created a masculine birthday card that takes its color scheme cue from the great wintry outdoors. As I was thinking of card ideas, I remembered a fun card I had made based on Tim Holtz's August Tag of 2015 technique. I decided to revisit it to make this card.
Tim has an excellent tutorial on his blog. I changed things up a bit but the basic background technique is the same.
I'm entering this into the Frilly & Funkie Winter Hues challenge (just in the nick of time ha ha).

Creative Cards With Eileen Hull!
Good morning! Wow, have you been following all the Creativation excitement that happened over the weekend? I love how so many people were doing Facebook Live videos and sharing photos of sample projects so us stay-at-homes could still see the action. So much inspiration! This month Eileen's Inspiration Team has been sharing ideas for making cards using Eileen's dies. They aren't just for 3-D projects. ;-) Check out the past few posts on her site for some eye candy! (The January 20th post also has a roundup of all our sneak peeks the team has been doing of all Eileen's new stuff that debuted. )
I decided to make a Valentine's Day card since it will be here before we know it! I used some old favorites from Eileen's past collections.
First I cut the jars from some scrap packaging plastic and coated them with glossy Glue 'n Seal and then when dry, with Rock Candy Crackle Paint around the edges. (It's necessary to coat glass or plastic with a medium like Glue 'n Seal before adding the Crackle Paint or it will otherwise flake off when it dries.)
For the card background, I cut several borders from the Buttons Border & Trim die out of white cardstock. I wanted to do a tone on tone type texture (sort of a "faux" embossing look). I glued them onto the white cardstock base and trimmed the edges.
Finally, I lightly misted the background with Tattered Rose Spray Distress Stain. I also used Alcohol Ink and plenty of Blending Solution to tint the jars and bring out the crackle.
All that was left was to fill the jars with various hearts cut with the Heartfelt die and make a little sentiment tag to tie around the large jar.
Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to head on over to Eileen's blog and see all the other fun cards my teammates have been cooking up all month. =)

Creativations! – Sneek Peaks with Eileen Hull…
It's almost here! Eileen made it through all the awful winter weather with Scotty in tow and is now busily setting up the booth for the Creativations 2017 show. Formerly known as CHA, this is the show where designers and crafting manufacturers from all over will be debuting their exciting new products. The Inspiration Team had so much fun making all sorts of samples with all Eileen's new diecuts – wait until they are revealed at the show, you will get your socks knocked off. I have so many ideas for even more to do with them. ;-)
I can only share sneak peeks for now, but soon you will see everything! Keep an eye on Eileen's FaceBook Live videos and posts to see all the action and excitement.
If you are going to the show, be sure to find Eileen's booth and visit Scotty the vintage trailer – once again making an appearance right on the show floor! There will be fun make and takes, tours and lots to see.
Here is Scotty proudly overlooking the action at the show last year in 2016. |
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you can catch some of the excitement on the Creativation horizon.
