Hello, I'm back with another Topflight Stamps card for you! This week's theme is "Anything Goes" which is always lots of fun. I used one of the new robot stamps designed by Andy Skinner for Creative Expressions to create an anniversary card to give to my husband.
Specifically, I used the "Better Together" stamp. (So true!) I paired it with a gel print background and die cuts (Paper Rose – Cog Frame).

At the beginning of May, Eileen Hull released another set of Sizzix Classics dies. Three favorite retired designs have been brought back for your crafting pleasure! They are theNotebook Die, theStacking Drawer Box Dieand theTreasure Box Die. The Notebook and Drawers all fit perfectly into the Treasure Box so you can mix and match them together for all sorts of project combinations. I have a Notebook project to share with you that I made when the die originally came out.
The Notebook is such a handy size to carry in your purse or give as a gift!

Eileen's new dies:
I used the Folio Journal and the Folio Page, Pockets and Flowers set to create a grungy, cyberpunk-y (sort of) robot themed journal:

If you are an Isaac Asimov fan you will recognize the 3 laws. ;-)
Tutorial Time!
Step 1 – After cutting the journal covers out of mat board, I covered the fronts with sections of foil ducting tape (available from hardware store). Note I did not cover the part of the back cover spine I was going to glue to the front cover!
Step 2 – Paint! I used a combination of blue and green acrylic paints to splotchily paint the covers. When it was dry I lightly sanded it to distress it.
Step 3 – I stamped all over the covers with Archival Inks. I have stamps, inks and stencils spread out all over my work table. Definite craft explosion. I also used the Circuit stencil to add some embossing to the cover.
Step 4 – I cut paper to fit inside the covers and adhered, then did some more stamping and stenciling.
Little folded mat board do-hickey above is the tab you use to turn the flap into a pocket.
Looky, now it's a pocket! These little mini composition books from the Dollar Tree fit perfectly.
Step 5 – Time to work on the little book signature that goes inside. The Folio Page, Pocket & Flowers Die set has a die that cuts, you guessed it, pages to fit into your Folio Journal! Eileen designed a really nifty feature into the die that makes it easy to cut folded signature pages. The little tabs on the side (see red arrows) line up with the folded edge so you know exactly where to position the paper so the fold doesn't get cut off. So handy!
I went ahead and cut my cover and some pages to go inside.
Step 6 – I went to town and stamped and stenciled the cover and alllll the pages! See, I told you my table was a craft explosion. =)
Here are the pages all done before I bound them into a signature.

Here is the tutorial for the background and a supply list:
Step 1 - I used a piece of heavy manila folder for my substrate. I base coated it with Stone and Mahogany Fresco Paint.
Step 2 - I wanted to give Andy Skinner's Cosmic Shimmer Resist Paste a try. (see his video about it here if you like) It works well! Once my first layer of paint was nice and dry, I used a stencil and blending brush to apply the paste.
Step 3 – Once the paste was applied, I painted over it with another layer of paint and then let that layer dry.
Step 4 - I used a damp baby wipe to remove the paint that was on top of the resist paste:

Step 5 – After applying texture paste through another stencil, I sprinkled the wet paste with Patina Oxide embossing powder and let it dry. One slight annoyance, the resist paste was still a bit tacky and grabbed some of the embossing powder. Once the texture paste was dry, I just used a dry paint brush to remove some of the extra powder. When I made the ATC background, the painted base sat around overnight before I did the embossing powder step and I had no trouble with excess powder sticking. (fyi)

Step 6 - After melting the embossing powder, I gave the whole card front a wash of thinned out Paynes Grey acrylic paint. It unified the background and pooled around the raised areas which made them pop out more. The robot was stamped, watercolored, fussy cut and then attached to a Wobbler so it really pops off the card and moves around.
