Hello, it's time for another Compendium of Curiosities challenge! I can't believe I haven't missed one yet. I should get bonus points or something for that. ;-) This time we are focusing on the Colored Crackle technique, found on page 53 of the Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 3 book by Tim Holtz. You can play along too, check out the
Studio L3 blog and join in the challenge yourself. There is tons of inspiration there!
I used the Karen Burniston
Ring Accordion die to create the structure of this piece. I cut each section three times out of lightweight chipboard and glued them together to make a sturdy framework. I knew there would be a bit of warping because I was covering them with Crackle Paint. The sections go together easily. I'll be making more things with this cool die! I also crackled the pine trees and glued everything to a foamcore base I had covered with heavy gesso and Dry Rock Candy Glitter. I wish photos picked up the sparkle better, it's so pretty in real life! Here are few closeups:
The center panels are cropped from stamped images (see the links below for which ones). The images on either side of the house are from the same stamp! I used archival ink and then colored them with Distress inks and added Stickles Rock Candy for a bit of sparkle.
This challenge is sponsored by

Lisa this is beautiful! Extra points? Yes I agree...you should get extra, extra points!
ReplyDeleteWow, thi is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLisa...your Christnas piece is gorgeous!!! I LOVE it! I need to study your post more now but I wanted to answer your question about the all in one tool. That little tool is amazing and cuts out all if that picking out of little pieces of wasted paper in intricate die cuts. You simply lay the die cut on a slightly padded surface and just run the wheel if the tool back and forth over it. All of the little pieces just fall right out. It is amazing. There are also other little attachments that do other things to make die cutting little pieces easier. It is a great tool. One of the Top 20 new products introduced at CHA last winter. <3 Candy
