Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge #32 – Frosted Film

I can't believe I'm getting my challenge done so early this time! And I also can't believe we are nearing the end of the Compendium challenges! What a fun time it has been and chock full of artful inspiration. =) You can find the challenges over at the Studio L3 blog and this challenge is focusing on the Frosted Film technique as shown on page 59 of Tim Holtz's book, A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 3. Frosted film is pretty amazing stuff! I can't share exactly what to do with it as per the challenge rules but check out the card I made for a friend's birthday:

I love the translucent layering! And because I used Karen Burniston's Accordion Rectangle Die, it opens up to this:

Isn't it cool? I will admit it was a bit tricky joining the panels together since I was basically gluing plastic. Glossy Accents works pretty well for the main frame tabs but the little tabs joining the center panels have too much pressure on them and they kept popping apart. I had to use eyelets to hold them. It's a "don't fold me up and put me in an envelope" kind of card. It's okay though, we were able to just give it to him and he can display it on a shelf. I think it's worth it for the cool effect. ;-)

  4. What a great card, Lisa! The frosted film works so well for this darling Superman theme as the film gives the background behind him a bit of a cloudy look, perfect for a guy who flies! Great job! Thanks for joining us for this challenge!

  5. Lisa....using frosted film to create this Karen Burniston accordion card is off the charts cool! I would have NEVER thought of that! :) Your son has GOT to love this card! Those Superman images are just the greatest and you've done such a fabulous job of coloring them....something I am sure what not an easy task. That slicker finish can sometimes be tricky to stamp and color on. Each panel is so super cute! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
