Funkie Junkie Focus – Paints & Pastes!

Our current Funkie Junkie Focus is all about Paints and Pastes. These are media supplies you will definitely want to have in your art stash. You can do so many things with them! I decided to create a whimsical Notebook journal featuring both.

I used Distress Paint and Black Opaque Texture Paste on the outside of the notebook cover.

On the inside of the cover I added Sparkle Texture Paste over patterned paper (Backdrops Vol. 5).

The signatures are little premade notebooks I have that I covered to match the theme.

Here are the how to steps:

1) I created the base layer of painty background on the mat board I used for the cover.

2) On the inside, I applied the Sparkle Texture Paste through a stencil to add texture and shine. That paste is one of my favorites!

3) After applying the Black Opaque Texture Paste, I lightly sprinkled on embossing powder while the paste was wet. Once it was completely dry, I heat embossed the powder.

4) I used elastic to create the binding.

Steampunk Card with Topflight Stamps

I'm back again with another AALL & Create card for Topflight Stamps! This is such a great brand and it encompasses several different styles and designers. For my second card I made another steampunk themed one.

The Dashing Crow is one of my favorite steampunk stamps. Isn't he a fun guy? I'm also really loving the AALL & Create die sets with all the little elements you can layer up. Check them out in the store!

Painterly Blooms Notebook with Eileen Hull – The Tutorial!

Hello, did you catch the newest Sizzix release from Eileen Hull at the beginning of June? Check back to my post here for the details. The Inspiration Team designers have been sharing tutorials for their fab projects all month. This week I have the tutorial for my Painterly Blooms Notebook for you.

Let's see some how-to!

Step 1 – I collaged torn up pieces of deli paper Gel Press prints onto the front of the Mat Board for the cover. 

Step 2 – I got to try out the new Sizzix Stencil & Stamp Tool in conjunction with Eileen's new layered stencil set, Watercolor Flowers & Lattice. It is handy! The stencils "lock in" and stay put. I started off using the Lattice stencil with embossing ink on the cover.

The embossing ink was covered with Rustic Wilderness Distress Glaze and heat embossed.

Step 3 – I decorated the signature covers with stenciled flowers from the Watercolor Flowers & Lattice set. Again the Tool made it easy to line up the layers. I used stencil brushes to make it easier to add color details.

I also cut out stenciled flowers using the coordinating Painterly Blooms & Background Thinlits Die Set to embellish the cover.

The signatures were ready made little notebooks I had in my
stash that I covered with the decorated papers I made.

Step 4 – Using a mini hole punch, I punched holes in the spine of the cover so I could thread skinny elastic through. The elastic holds the signatures in place.

Feeling Butterflies with Topflight Stamps

Hello, this week on the Topflight Stamps blog the theme is all about Butterflies! I'm starting to see real butterflies out in my garden and they are always a welcome sight. Of course butterfly stamps, stencils and dies are always popular for us crafters too. Let's take a look at the butterfly card I created:

I was happy to try out the Crafty Individuals stamp Trio of Inky Butterflies. I stamped it first in blue (Blue Atoll from Lavinia). On another sheet of paper, I stamped it in black permanent ink, watercolored it, and then fussy cut the butterflies out to place over the blue background.

The whole center butterfly portion of the card is adhered to a gel print background I had in my stash.

Funkie Junkie Focus – Ranger Alcohol Inks

Our current Funkie Junkie Focus is on Ranger's Alcohol Inks. They really are a lot of fun to play with! (Check out the demo videos Tim Holtz has done for lots of great techniques.) I first made several backgrounds on Ranger Yupo White Cardstock using the inks (pearl and regular).

I die cut through the alcohol inked backgrounds to reveal the card base color. (Tip: using the metal Precision Plate in my Sizzix Big Shot helped the Thinlit dies to cut through the Yupo paper)

I also used Alcohol Lift Ink and the new Paint By Number stamp set to add a number to each card.

When stamping over alcohol ink, Archival Inks work best! I also added some abstract die cut shapes to embellish the cards.

The inks work so well on the Yupo paper! You can really get it to move around.

Getting Inky with Topflight Stamps

Hello, this week on the Topflight Stamps blog the theme is all about inks! Topflight Stamps carries several brands of ink pads as well as sprays and mists. I created a pair of cards using regular stamping as well as a few other techniques using stamp pads. Let's take a look…

For the background, I used the Tre Fiori stencil to make a monoprint. This is an easy technique and a great way use your stencils in another way. I applied ink with the Lime Punch ink pad to the stencil itself and then spritzed it three or four times with water. I placed the stencil, ink side down, onto the paper and then blotted with a paper towel. The ink on the stencil transferred to the paper.

I also added a blue splatter to the background. After smooshing the Bermuda ink pad onto my craft sheet, I sprayed it with water to make a puddle of ink. Dipping a splatter brush into it, I splatted droplets onto my finished card background.

Katzelkraft Monster Birthday Card with Topflight Stamps

Hello, this week on the Topflight Stamps blog the theme is Anything Goes! I decided to create a cute birthday card (shhh… it's for my nephew later in the month) using Katzelkraft stamps. I've had this Monsters set for awhile and it always makes me smile when I pull it out. The Holiday Quotes stamp set is full of great sentiments as well and pairs well with the whimsical stamp designs.

I stamped with permanent ink and then watercolored over the top. It's a great way to add lots of color!

Funkie Junkie Focus – Tim Holtz Idea-ology Found Nature

Hello! Our current Funkie Junkie Focus is on the new release of Tim Holtz Idea-ology. There were some great pieces in this collection! I used a Small Etcetera Tag as my base and built from there:

I used  a lot of new and old Idea-ology. It pays to have a stash!

The Salvaged Hearts and Postmarked Sticker Book are both winners for sure! I mixed in Pocket Cards and pieces from various Ephemera packs as well.

One of the smallest sized Vignette Boxes houses some Toadstools and other bits.

I am in love with the new Cello Sticker Tape! Definitely need to stock up on that.

2024 June Release – New Eileen Hull Sizzix Collection

Welcome to the 2024 June Sizzix Release Party of Eileen Hull's newest collection! We are celebrating with a Live party and this Blog Hop! Eileen's designers have been hard at work creating with Eileen's great new dies and have loads of inspiration for you.

Here is what Eileen has to say about her new collection:

Introducing my June Sizzix release! This collection combines three classic Eileen Hull Sizzix Scoreboards dies and two new designs- a four layer stencil and coordinating Thinlits that cuts a portion of the stencil! The three Scoreboards dies are the Treasure Box, Stacking Drawer and Notebook. The fun thing about this set is that they work together but also stand alone.

The Treasure Box measures 3 1/4” x 5 1/4” x 4” and holds index cards, two stacks of ATC’s, a whole row of journaling cards and anything else you care to add.

The Stacking Drawer fits a set of three drawers perfectly inside the Treasure Box to create a great storage solution for desk supplies, hair accessories, small collections, jewelry and much more. It also makes a great little gift box for something special! 

The Notebook is a favorite because of how quick and easy it is to create. One pass through the Big Shot and you have a book cover! It measures 5” x 3 1/2” x 3/4”. Cover with paper, fabric, metal or cut from leather. So many ways to use this.

The Watercolour Florals & Lattice Stencil Set is based on a watercolor I did. There are three stencil layers to give dimension and then a fourth layer versatile lattice design that can also be used to create a plaid pattern!

Painterly Blooms & Background is a die set that perfectly die cuts the flowers you have just stenciled so no fussy cutting needed plus there are extra flower shapes so you can layer them for dimensional florals.
