Happy Birthday Katie!!

Today is my sister-in-law's birthday and since I know she already got her card, I can post it now! =) I used one of the new Karen Burniston dies, the Katie Label Pivot Card. (Appropriate, don't you think?) I really like these dies because you can determine where on your card fold the label part will be cut. (Check out Karen's video explaining the pivot cards.) I had mine moved up towards the top of the card so I could fit the cupcake stamp (embossed in white powder) onto the front of the card.

As you can see I used lots of bright colors and the Tim Holtz Birthday Blueprint stamps to make an extra festive card! I like that the Katie Label die set comes with the matching label shapes so you can layer them up without buying an additional die set.

St. Patrick's Day Luminary

Only a week to go until St. Patrick's Day! I just bought my corned beef today at the grocery store lol. I had an idea to make a St. Patrick's Day themed luminary and I love how colorful and spring-like it turned out.

 

I used bristol board to form the body of the luminary. It is easier to fold than thin chipboard and sturdy enough to take being covered in a thick layer of crackle paint. Once I put all the panels together (glue in any window material before you put it together!) I base coated the whole thing with gold acrylic paint. I wanted it to peek through the crackles (and it does!) For more glam, I even adhered gold leafing to the underside of the roof panels.  The wee Irish lass is a piece of vintage clipart I found on this website. I fussy cut her out and I think she's an adorable addition. Here is more of a top view of the luminary:

I also wanted to create a fun base for the luminary. I started out with an empty cardboard ribbon roll. I cut a larger circle to glue on top and painted the rest gold. I thought it needed a rainbow (couldn't find the pot of gold though darn it) so I made a little backdrop.

Lots of spring greenery, flowers and clovers make a nice home for the luminary to reside in. I hope you've been inspired by my project. The Luminary die is so versatile! A Splash of Color

It's time for the March challenge at Inspiration Journal!! This month's theme is A Splash of Color and I imagine that many of you are really really looking forward to some spring weather and color coming your way! Even if it's still white and frozen outside you can create with color in a paper project. I created a bright and springy birthday card:

I had some fun with a new Tim Holtz stamp set (Bird Feather) and stencil (Latticework). I also used a bunch of the new Wendy Vecchi archival ink colors. Those new colors are sooo lovely - I want them all now! To start my collage I used Glue 'n Seal to put down a strip cut from an old ledger book. I used a brayer to apply Distress stain to that half of the card, over the ledger paper. Using a brayer gives you a nice streaky look. Over all that, I glued a torn strip of text patterned paper to complete my background grid. I did stamping and stenciling over the top of everything to finish it off. Easy!
