Merry Christmas!! It's almost here! I had this project in mind and I was determined to get it done before Christmas. (I made it, hurray!) I'm in love with the Tim Holtz Village Dwelling die line and I have great plans for more little houses (stay tuned!) Nothing says Christmas like a gingerbread house and this one will last from year to year.
I pulled out my stash of vintage Christmas baubles, decor and cookie cutters and went to town! Plus I added a string of mini wire lights to light up the house and the mini tree!
I created a platform made from six
Candy Drawers to hold my little scene. For an added bonus, I could stash the light strand's battery box in one of the drawer compartments.
Tim Holtz has an
excellent tutorial on his website on building this sweet little gingerbread house using the
Village Dwelling Die and the accessory
Village Gingerbread Die. I added the mini lights inside and "sugar glass" window panes (plastic covered with Glue 'n Seal and Rock Candy Stickles).
I wanted to make the back side interesting too so I decked out a small tart tin with a snowy scene and vintage porcelain deer. Other vintage parts are the fabulous tree cookie cutter I found at a thrift store, old bulbs and vintage mercury beads and ornaments.
The tart pan was new and way too shiny so I aged it with Mushroom Alcohol Ink. That stuff is magical!
I wrapped the end of the wire light strand around the tree and glued on old mercury beads. I love the vintage bling!
I love the lights! I cut the backs out of the two end drawers and glued them together to make one long drawer. The light battery pack fits perfectly! The lights run up through a hole I cut in the top of the platform and into the house and then out to the tree.
Thank you for visiting. I wish you all a merry Christmas and hope you have a peaceful and joyful time with family and friends. I'm off to bake a few more cookies. ;-)
I am also entering this into the
Winter Magic challenge over at A Vintage Journey and the
