Build a Stash – Making Journal Fodder Using Eileen Hull Dies

Hello and good day to you all! For the month of June, Eileen Hull's Inspiration Team has been focusing on making journal fodder for your journal projects. What is journal fodder? It's those little bits and pieces you can add to the pages of your journals to bring them to life. Think tags, pockets, ephemera clusters etc. You can create a fodder stash to have ready to go for your next journal project.

For my take on the theme, I used Eileen's Snail Mail and Mini Slimline & Tickets Die Sets to make stamps! I'll show you several different materials you can use.

You can use the stamps in blocks to add to projects or you can cut them apart and use as singles!

Let's take a look at some of the how-to:

1) Crinoline is a stiffened fabric historically used in millinery. You can dye it any color you like and it die cuts beautifully. For this first idea, I used it as a base and applied rub ons from 49 and Market directly to the crinoline.

I die cut it with the Mini Slimline & Tickets Die and then added some stamping using Eileen's Snail Mail Postage stamp set and Archival Ink. Easy!

2) I used Old Paper Distress Spray Stain to color the white crinoline and then cut squares of felt and fabric to overlay the 'stamp bases'

After tacking down the felt/fabric to the crinoline bases with tiny dots of glue, I used embroidery floss, small die cuts and other bits to add fun details to the stamps.

Stiffened felt from the craft store also makes a great stamp base and cuts easily. This set of stamps were cut from felt and then embellished with squares of paper, rub ons and ephemera.

3) Fun foam is a great material to work with. I've used it in the past to make foam stamps from my die cuts and I thought it would also be useful as a fodder substrate too!

After cutting out the 'stamps' I painted in the backgrounds, then stamped on details with the foam stamp I had made using Eileen's Mandala Die. I followed up with some marks made with a found object and then added some fun brads and other ephemera bits.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to keep an eye on Eileen's blog for more inspiration from the Educator and Inspiration Teams.

You can see some more 'stamp collage fodder' in this post that I made for the Chapter 2 die release earlier this year. Enjoy!

Funkie Junkie Focus – New Stampers Anonymous from Tim Holtz

Hello there, our Funkie Junkie Focus this time around is on the newest Tim Holtz release from Stamper Anonymous. Fun stuff! I created an all occasion card using the Tiny Prints and Bold Botanicals stamp sets.

I used Distress Glaze to create the Tiny Prints background. I stamped with embossing ink onto a piece of Backdrops paper, then embossed it with Peeled Paint Distress Glaze.

Completed card base:

For the flower focal piece (Bold Botanicals), I stamped it and then embossed with Walnut Stain Distress Glaze before blending on the color using Distress Oxide Inks. There you go, using the powers of stamping to create an easy card!

Funkie Junkie Focus – Get Ready to Travel!

Hello and welcome to summer vacation season! Our Funkie Junkie Focus theme this time is "Get Ready to Travel!" I created a small road trip notebook that you can take with you in the car and keep track of travel details in.

I used the Eileen Hull Skinny Mini Book Box Die to create the notebook cover.

I decorated the front and back using Tim Holtz stamps and dies that are sure to stoke your wanderlust! Inside is a lined notebook insert I cut down to fit the cover.

Here's a quick look at how it came together:

Step 1 – I covered Sizzix matboard with pieces cut from an old road map. I then die cut the two cover halves out of the matboard. I wanted the notebook to be thin and fit just one signature, so I trimmed off part of the spine pieces.

Tip: to decrease bulk when you glue the overlapping spine parts together, on one side peel off the outer layer of the matboard first.

Step 2 – After gluing the two cover halves together and letting them dry, I used my Crop-a-dile tool to punch holes in the top and bottom of the spine for the elastic.

Step 4 – String elastic cord through the holes and tie off inside. Make sure it has some tension on it so it will hold the signature in place. All you have to do is open up the signature to the middle and slip it under the elastic. Easy peasy!
