Christmas in July Gingerbread House

Hello there! I'm squeezing in a "Christmas in July" project. ;-) (Just under the wire aren't I?) Seeing Tim Holtz share all his new Christmas dies that are coming out inspired me. His Village Die Series is a favorite of mine so I got in the Christmas spirit in spite of the heat and made this little gingerbread house decor piece.

The bowl, vintage cookie cutters, ornaments and rolling pins are all from my thrifted/garage sale stash. I will make more of these bowls because I have quite a stash of stuff to use ha ha.

Detail shot!
Thanks for stopping by and it really isn't too early to work on Christmas projects. Maybe it would make you feel cooler.

Steampunk Art Journal Page with Topflight Stamps

Hello! Well the toasty slog through July continues here in our neck of the woods. Staying inside with the AC crafting sounds pretty good. ;-) I was in an art journaling mood so I whipped up a page in my steampunk art journal.

I have a whole box of leftover 'bits and pieces' from other projects. It's fun to rummage around and use parts from it in journal pages like this. I guess you can call it art recycling lol.

Birthday Card with Topflight Stamps & Katzelkraft

Hello! This week at Topflight Stamps we are focusing on stamps from Katzelkraft. I love the cat stamp set and it was perfect to make a whimsical birthday card for my little nephew. I first sprayed mist through the Clouds & Hearts stencil and then stamped the furniture pieces in the background. The cat, table and mouse I stamped and colored on another piece of paper and then  fussy cut them out.

Super Card Team-Up with Eileen Hull

What happens when you combine Eileen Hull's new Book Club Ch. 2 collection, ColorBox Blends ink and DCWV paper? You get a super cool team-up that packs a punch! Check out this card I made:

Papers are from the DCWV Palms & Ferns stack.

I based my card off off the July DCWV challenge on their Facebook page using the challenge sketch:

Here are a few tips and tricks I used making the card and utilizing Eileen's ColorBox Blends inks. The Blends pigment inks contain about 10x more ink than a standard ink pad and come with a built in applicator.

Technique 1 – I first used the Hearts Journaling Card die to cut a stencil out of transparency film.

I stenciled a pattern of hearts through a circle mask I cut and onto the card base. The Blends applicator makes it super easy to stencil!

(The new Credit Card Sleeve Die has a separate slot piece so you can cut them wherever you want in the sleeve.)

Technique 2 - You can also use the Blends to create interesting backgrounds. Squish a quantity of ink onto your craft mat and then spritz with water. Drag and blot your paper through the ink to build up layers of splotchy goodness. I dried it in between layers.

I used these backgrounds to cut my flower pieces from. Keep an eye on Eileen's blog this month as the Inspiration Team shares more projects and tips for using her new die Collection and Blends inks! You don't want to miss all the creative fun! You can also ask to join the Eileen Hull Fan Club on Facebook and soak up the creative tips, inspiration and sharing in our supportive, friendly group.

I am also sharing this card with the Frilly & Funkie Blog "B" Happy challenge. There is always fun stuff to see there so check them out too.

ACEO Display

Happy Friday to you all! My husband enjoyed the anime series One-Punch Man so I purchased an Artist Trading Card (aka ACEO) of the hero, Saitama for him as a Father's Day present. (The artist is Anne Dandan and you can see her work at her etsy store and follow her at @WrathOfBom.) I wanted to make a little display for the card so he could take it to work and use it for desk decor. ;-) Here is what I came up with:

Most of the supplies and dies I used are from Tim Holtz! Oxide Inks for the background (I loooove them!), the Cityscape dies and a Silly Monster provide the perfect setting for the card.

FYI the Cityscape die sets are on sale at right now at Sizzix. I love all the details they have. Check out the sale and see what other trouble you can get into! ;-)

Christmas Decor with Topflight Stamps

Hello there! It's Christmas in July time and today I'm sharing a project I made for Topflight Stamps using a Lynne Perrella Christmas stamp set. It's a simple little mixed media canvas that would make a great decoration for Christmastime.

This started as a 5x7 inch canvas that I painted dark blue. I used the (non flowery & buggy) corner of the Stamperia Dragonfly & Butterfly Stencil with black modeling paste to add some texture. When that was dry, I misted it with Mica Spray and Spray Distress Stain to add some glimmer and help delineate the stenciled texture.

Next I used Prima waxes to highlight the raised areas further and add more glimmer. (You can't have too much shine in a Christmas decoration. ;-) )

I stamped the PaperArtsy angel image onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock (smooth side) with archival ink and then watercolored and stenciled on it.

Thanks for stopping by! Below is a list of supplies I used. Be sure to check out the Topflight Stamps blog for more inspiration. There is always something fun to see there! Have a great week. =)

Also, there is a Christmas in July sale going on right now through July 15th at Topflight Stamps!
