Mixed Media Monthly Challenge – What's Your Superpower?

Welcome to April and we're not fooling around about this next challenge at Mixed Media Monthly!  We want to see projects about your own personal superpowers. ;-)  Brett Weldele is our guest designer this month. He designs some awesome stamp sets and stencils for Stampers Anonymous. I pondered my various superpowers (lol) and decided to focus on my uncanny ability to add gears to anything and call it steampunk. ;-)  I took an old children's book and altered it into a fabulously steampunk art journal:

A few of the first inner pages I did. I look forward to doing more!

I didn't gesso over the town illustration because I thought it was cool!

I was a bit remiss in taking step by step photos. I was in a creative groove. ;-) I started out by gessoing the book cover and then gluing all the chipboard diecuts on the front. I added another layer of gesso over those to seal them. I used DecoArt Media fluid acrylics and misters to add all the color on the front. I base coated with Burnt Umber and Transparent Red Iron Oxide. When dry, I misted with the Carbon Black Mister and then followed with some misting with plain water to blend it out and get it to run into all the cracks and crevices. (I did take a photo of that ha ha):

Add more black Lisa!

I continued to add depth and layers of color with washes of Quinacridone Gold, Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide, and Paynes Grey. At the end, I added some stamped detail too with archival ink.

super duper!

The gent in the frame is from one of Brett Weldele's stamp sets. I cut the frame from matboard and embossed it with Emerald Creek 'Burnt Copper Leaves' embossing powder. They have the most interesting embossing powders and The Funkie Junkie Boutique is now a U.S. carrier of them (no affiliate link).

Thanks for stopping by! And many thanks to Stampers Anonymous for donating this month's prize of super cool Brett Weldele products. Be sure to head on over to the Challenge Post and check out all the creative power from the team. Share your work with us to be eligible to win! =)

I'm also entering this into the SASPC Anything Goes steampunk challenge for April & the Country View Challenges April Challenge, Rust. Lots of cool projects to see in both places!
