Think Spring with Topflight Stamps

Hello, I'm back with another Topflight Stamps project for you! This week's theme is "Spring/Mother's Day". I created a pair of cards to give to my Mom and Mother-in-law next month.

I stamped Summer Meadow using embossing ink and then embossed it with clear embossing powder to form a resist. Then I blended Lavinia ink over the image and also added some Lavinia Dinkles Ink Powder around the edges. Stenciling and die cutting finished it off.

Funkie Junkie Focus – Out of the Vault II

Hello Funkie Junkie fans! Our focus this time is all about the newest Vault release of Tim Holtz Sizzix dies. They've taken die designs from the past and reimagined them by mixing, matching and changing the sizes. Whether you missed them the first time around or just want to expand the possibilities, these die sets are handy! I used the Vault Boutique and Vault Matchbox sets to create a pair of Mother's Day slimline cards for my Mom and Mother-in-law.

I used Gel Press prints from my stash as the backgrounds and layered on stamping and die cut elements. You can find the supplies over at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!

Funkie Junkie Focus – Mother's Day Cards

Hello there Funkie Junkie Boutique fans! Our current theme is "We Love You Mom!" and I chose to make cards for my Mom and Mother-in-law.

One is a shaker card (always lots of fun):

The other features watercolor stamping using the new Bold Botanicals Tim Holtz stamp set:

Here are a few looks at the "in process"…

Shaker Card:

1 - Using Idea-ology Collage Layer Frames and Pocket Cards made it quick and easy to construct the shaker part of the card. I just had to add a piece of clear acetate and some foam tape to the back of one of the Layer Frames and adhere it over a Pocket Card on my card base.

I filled it with various sequins and beads from my stash.

2 - I also enjoyed breaking out a new die set, the Mini Brushstroke Flowers. They added a wonderful finishing touch to the card. I cut the flowers out of Distress Watercolor Cardstock and then watercolored them afterwards.

Bold Botanicals Card:

1 - I used a paint resist technique for one of my layers. I sponged Antique Linen Distress Paint through the Flourish stencil onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock.

When the paint was dry, I sprayed it with various Spray Stains and a little water to blend it. The paint resists the spray and the design pops right through.

2 - card base layers:

Patterned paper is from Backdrops Volume #5,
so many lovely papers in it!

3 - The Bold Botanicals stamps are perfect for the watercolor stamping technique. I tapped the Mini Distress Ink Pads over the various areas of the stamp, spritzed it with water and then stamped it onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock. It has such a great effect!

More Paper Flower Party with Eileen Hull

I'm back with more Paper Flower Party inspiration! You can check out the flowery goodness from the Inspiration Team all month long on Eileen's blog. It's amazing how versatile these dies are – you can create all sorts of projects with them. I used the dies to make some Mother's Day cards:

I used a few different techniques that I would like to share with you. First, fun with Distress Crayons (and Gelatos)! I used them to create the background of the card on the left and the basket on the card on the right. I diecut the basket out of scoreboard and embossed it with the Basket Weave folder. I embossed a piece of heavy cardstock with the Lace Medallions folder for the other background. Coat each with a layer of Distress Collage Medium (or similiar) to seal it. The Crayons and Gelatos blend much more smoothly over a sealed surface.

Next I scribbled the basket with two colors of Distress Crayons and blended them with my finger. A dampened paper towel can remove some of the color to lighten the high points.

I was curious to see how the Gelatos compared to the Distress Crayons so I used those on the card background. I think the Crayons are creamier but both blended smoothly and gave me good results.

For the flowers on the Bloom card, I used one of my favorite "papers", coffee filters! They take color well, cut beautifully, and look like tissue paper but are much stronger. I used various mists to color some filters and cut out a whole bunch of blooms from the Romance Flower die.

I mixed and matched sizes and colors and made a multi-layer stack with a brad in the center to hold it all together. I then scrunched up each layer to give them a bit of volume and texture.

Finally, I used Eileen's new Twist & Style Tool to make a handle out of jute string for the little basket. You'll be seeing more uses for this handy little tool. It is so much fun to use!

Inspiration Journal May Challenge – Pasted!

Yep, the May challenge over at Inspiration Journal is in full swing and you can join in for a chance to win $50 to spend at Inspiration Emporium! The theme this month is Pasted! and we want to see what you can do with some sort of embossing paste incorporated into your project. I made a Mother's Day card for mine:

Ever since I saw Shelly Hickox's super cool double embossing technique she used for her Dog Tag necklace, I've wanted to try it out. (See her post for complete instructions.) She used aluminum flashing as the base for her pendant. I covered a piece of heavy cardstock with a foil sheet for my "metal" substrate. I used various Wendy Vecchi blue embossing powders as my base embossed layer and white embossing powder over the stenciled Texture Paste. I wanted to create more of a "vintage china" feel since this was a card for my Grandma. She isn't into grunge lol. Here's a detail of the embossing part:
