Mixed Media Card with Eileen Hull

Hello! I've been playing more with Eileen's new Molten Dimensions Embossing Powder and Clearsnap Blends Ink.

The powders are chunky and you get really good coverage and dimension. I discovered that I can use my Melting Pot to easily make all the embossed die cut elements. (The Ranger Melting Pot was designed by Suze Weinberg and they were sadly discontinued a few years ago. You might have one in your craft stash already or be able to find one used on eBay etc.)

I die cut the flower parts, inked them with Eileen's clear (super sticky!) Blends Ink, applied the powder and set it into the pre-heated pot to melt. (It doesn't take long!) I had these non-stick inserts with side flaps that were made to fit into the tray which made it really easy to remove the melted die cut. I just lifted the liner out and let it cool off to the side before handling it. You could do the same thing with a folded piece of foil or paper.

On the large gold flower, I stamped it to give it an embossed texture. The round stamp from the Tim Holtz set The Professor fit perfectly onto the flower tips. While the powder was still molten, I carefully pressed the stamp in place and then left it there until the powder had cooled and solidified. Then the stamp just pops off.

The frame is the front from the Trinket Box die. (See, 3-D dies can be used for 2-D projects too!) I covered the frame with the clear embossing powder, sprinkled on White Wonder powder and then gently knocked some of the powder off by tapping on the back. I wanted some 'gaps' that would give an eggshell, vintage texture after melting. After I embossed it and it was cool, I rubbed Nutmeg Blends Ink all over the frame, working it into the gaps left by the powder I knocked off. I buffed the extra ink off with a soft cloth before it dried. I also added a bit of ink to the flower parts to give them a vintage distressed look too. I had to use a strong liquid adhesive to glue the flowers together because of the slick embossed surfaces. Crafter's Pick The Ultimate! glue is one of my favorites for such jobs.

Steampunk Father's Day with Topflight Stamps

Hello! Father's Day is fast approaching and I was in need of a card for my Dad. The Stamperia brand is being showcased this week on the Topflight Stamps blog and they have products that are perfect for masculine cards! I used stamps and a stencil designed by Antonis Tzanidakis and the steampunk vibe is just what I wanted.

I started off with a Gel Press Plate print made with black, white and orange paint. It created an interesting base. On top of that, I used the Mixed Media Layout stencil and the Emboss It Dabber to apply embossing ink. I mixed the Eclipse and Desert embossing powders from the Seth Apter Baked Velvet Neutrals kit to emboss the stenciled design. The top layer of the card is fussy cut stamped images and gear diecuts.

Eileen Hull Embossing Powders! – Robot Card

Hello! I've been having more fun with Eileen Hull's new Molten Dimensions Embossing Powder and made this cute robot card for my nephew's fifth birthday. I am finding it very handy to use my old Ranger Melting Pot to emboss all the little bitty parts of projects. For a more in-depth look at how I used it, see this post from last week where I used it to emboss all sorts of small flower parts on a Mother's Day card.

Look at that cute little robot! The embossing really adds a lot of dimension:

The robot is cut using the Tim Holtz Robotic Die (which I love!) I used Eileen's new Clearsnap Clear Ink dabber to apply embossing ink to the parts. It is super sticky ink and is perfect for holding even the chunky embossing powders. I also used a bit of Rinea foiled paper for some robot parts to add a different texture and some bling.

TIP: If you need to glue parts that have been embossed, you need to make sure you have the right glue. The embossed surfaces are a bit slick. I have had excellent success with Api's Crafter' Pick The Ultimate! glue. It is a liquid tacky-glue type adhesive but it is super strong. I use it all the time for gluing embellishments, chunky metal things, etc. – it's my favorite!

Mother's Day Card with Eileen Hull

Hello! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. It was warm and sunny here, downright hot! Of course the temperature is going to drop 30 degrees by the end of the week and rain is coming. That's okay though, it will be good for my garden. =) I made this card for my mother
-in-law using Eileen's dies and her NEW Molten Dimensions embossing powders from Emerald Creek. They are pretty fabulous!

Eileen Hull's New Embossing Powder & Topflight Stamps

Hello there! I made a cheery mixed media birthday card utilizing one of the gorgeous new Eileen Hull Molten Dimensions Embossing Powders by Emerald Creek. (Topflight Stamps carries the whole line!) Read on to find out what I did…

The background is formed from three book pages glued together and coated with gesso. I let the edges curl up to give it more dimension. I then spritzed it with water and sprinkled on some dye crystals. Once it was dry, I stamped it using a PaperArtsy stamp set, embossing some of the flowers with Polished Silver powder. Eileen's Molten Dimension Powders are very chunky and really do bring on the dimension! I also covered a 'happy birthday' diecut with the powder. It's a super luxe look!

Mid-Month May Inspiration for Mixed Media Monthly

For my project I created a card with a faux rusty background and die cut flowers embossed with several varieties of Emerald Creek embossing powders.

The background is embossed multi-media paper stock that I smeared with Distress Paint (Ripe Persimmon, Gathered Twigs, Aged Mahogany, and Vintage Photo) and then misted with water so it would marble together and mimic the look of rust.

The flowers I cut out of plain cardstock and then embossed with the various powders. It was easy to use the Emboss It Dabber to apply ink to the cut flowers and then sprinkle with powder.

Also, over at Eileen Hull's blog, the theme this month is 'May Flowers'! All of the flowers are cut using some of Eileen's flower dies. They are so versatile! Head on over to check out the flowery inspiration the team is sharing all month long.

May Challenge at Mixed Media Monthly!

Good morning and happy May! April showers bring… rust? Ha ha, it just might. ;-) We want to see projects using rusty colors, faux rust techniques, rust mediums – any or all of the above. You can see all the details and projects from the design team on the Mixed Media Monthly challenge post.

I created a junk journal with Eileen Hull's Journal Die to hold my collection of art mail I've received from all my ATC trading.

The focal image is a stamp from a Lynne Perrella set from Paper Artsy. I stamped it on Mixed Media Heavystock, watercolored it, and then embossed layers of Vintage Beeswax powder over the top. It's mounted on a cardstock tag that I covered with metal foil tape and distressed with paint and Chunky Rust embossing powder.

I covered mat board with adhesive backed cloth paper and then cut the covers out of it with the Journal Die. After that I used a brayer to apply a bit of Fresco paint to the covers and also used the paint to stencil. When the paint was dry I used various Distress Spray Stains to spritz all over the front and then stamped with archival ink.

My "flyleaf envelope" has Viva Rusty Paper paint on it with a stenciled
design over it embossed with Ancient Amber powder. 

I love all the bright envelopes. Happy mail indeed!

Here's a bit more "how to"…

Inside covers with elastic binding.

I knew my art envelopes were going to be bulky (and I have a large stack of them!) so I made this journal extra thick. Normally you overlap part of the spine and glue it so you can have either two or three signatures fastened into the cover. I butted the spine edges together and glued an extra piece of mat board I had cut over the inside of the spine to hold it all together. I then used my Crop-o-dile tool to punch through the extra mat board piece so I could string my elastic binding to hold four signatures.

I made four "stubby" signatures of six sheets of light cardstock each. They slide easily under the elastic binding.

I used a "stubby" page as a tab to slide into each envelope (a little glue kept the envelope in place). I just used pointy scissors to trim down each page to fit into the envelope if it was a smaller one. I actually ended up not using one of my signatures in the middle because the whole journal was getting so fat! I was still able to incorporate many of my art envies though.
