Masculine Birthday Card with Topflight Stamps

This week at Topflight Stamps our theme is "Anything Goes"! I made my Dad a mixed media birthday card using a variety of products from Topflight Stamps.

The base is a gel print background with stamping on it. Next I layered on some pieces of AALL & Create washi tape. Over that I applied some texture paste through the Stars & Rays stencil and then sprinkled on Weathered Gold WOW! embossing powder while it was still wet. Once the paste was dry, I heat embossed the powder.

Robot Cats, Mixed Media and Birthday Cards with Topflight Stamps

Hello, I have a Topflight Stamps card for you! This week's brand focus is on Katzelkraft. I used the Katzelkraft stamp sets Holiday Quotes, Robot Cat and Electrical Circuit to make a birthday card for my husband. 

I stamped Electrical Circuit on a gel print background with embossing ink, then embossed with WOW! Sea Salt embossing powder. The Robot Cat I stamped on other paper, painted it with watercolors and then fussy cut it out. It's popped up on a mini wobbler so it has some fun "action" when you shake the card.

New Funkie Junkie challenge – Celebrate Friendship

Hello there, our new challenge at the Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog is live and you won't want to miss out! Our hostess is Laura Gilhuly and the theme is Celebrate Friendship. 

I created a birthday card for a good friend of ours. We have known him for decades so he is indeed an "old friend" ha ha. Scroll on to take a peek at some of my design process...

Step 1 - I had some fun creating backgrounds for the various layers. The star layer (which showed through the star cutouts) was Iron Gate Halloween Mica Stain sprayed onto white cardstock. The night sky was an inky combo of Uncharted Mariner Distress Spray (regular and oxide) with a dash of Oxide Villainous Potion spray spritzed in.

Step 2 - I wanted to experiment with using the new Distress Watercolor Pencils for coloring the layers of a Sizzix Colorize Die. I really like the new pencils. I used them to layer on the color and then blended them out with water and a paintbrush. I will definitely be playing more with these great new pencils!

I gave the combined yellow layers a very light mist of Harvest Moon Mica Stain to give it a little glimmer.

Perfect! I'll definitely be using this technique on other layered dies like Otis.

Rinea Foil Paper, Steampunk Style

Good evening! I have been having more fun playing around with Rinea Foil Paper and their new 2.0 Ghost Ink. (Lots of fun, trust me on that!) I was experimenting with 'steampunk' styles and ended up making a pair of cards that are perfect for a man's birthday.

I gave one of these to my Dad for his birthday.

I also used Sizzix dies and 3-D embossing folders, stamp sets from Tim Holtz and a Xyron machine to make these cards. Let's take a look:

Step 1 - I used my Xyron Creative Station to apply adhesive to the back of a piece of glossy black Rinea foil paper. Then I used a 3-D embossing folder (Mechanics) to emboss the gear design. (The foil paper embosses beautifully!)

Step 2 – Rinea Ghost Ink is formulated to remove the color from the foil paper to reveal the silver metal base. You can stamp with the Ink pad and in this case I used just the reinker bottle for this technique.

I put a drop of ink on my craft sheet and used a make up wedge sponge to lightly brush it on the raised portions of the embossed foil. It started to take off the color right away. I buffed off the rest of the ink with a paper towel or rag and it really removed the color. Easy peasy!

I tried it with other folders and colors of foil paper.

I ended up not using this one for a card.

These are the two background I used, on brown and black foil. Having the Xyron adhesive on the back made it really easy to attach them to the card base. I layered diecuts and fussy cut stamped images on the top to complete the card. It's a quick and easy technique that looks really cool!

Birthday Celebration with Topflight Stamps

Hello! The new year is almost upon us; can you believe it? We are in a celebratory mood around here with the start of 2020 a few days away and also my husband's 50th birthday on the 4th! I made him a card:

I always love using Katzelkraft stamps because of their whimsical designs. I stamped and fussy cut this little robot and mounted it onto a Wobbler for some fun movement. The background is stamped with ombre ink and I embossed the sentiment so it would really pop. Hopefully he will like it! (and his surprise party, shhhhhhh… ;-)  )

High Flying Birthday Card with Topflight Stamps

Hello there! I hope that everyone had a nice Easter holiday. We also celebrated my father-in-law's birthday since it is tomorrow. This is the card that I made him:

The background is made with Distress Oxide Spray Stains (super fun to play with!!) I hand cut some cloud stencils out of cardstock and used them to apply embossing ink to the sky. I embossed them with some of the new Eileen Hull Molten Dimensions Embossing Powder. I love the texture you get with the chunky powder!

The plane is a fussy cut stamped image from the Fly High stamp set from IndigoBlu.

Frilly & Funkie Winter Blues Challenge

Robots Wishing a Happy Birthday

Hello! I'm here today to share a birthday card I made for my son using the hilarious Katzelkraft Robot stamps available from Topflight Stamps. As with many of the Katzelkraft stamps, these make me smile and I knew my son would enjoy them too.

The background is metallic cardstock embossed with the Foundry embossing folder. I stamped and fussy cut the robots out to layer over the background. (In case you are rusty on converting numbers to binary, 1111 = 15. ;-)  )

Say Happy Birthday with Topflight Stamps!

Hello there, today I'm sharing a whimsical card I made for a friend of the family who turned 13! That is certainly a milestone birthday and deserves a special card.

I enjoy making cards with the humorous Katzelkraft stamps and the lion from the Jungle Animals set seemed perfect for a dignified birthday greeting lol. I stamped, watercolored and then fussy cut it out to pop him up from the card base with foam squares. I used other stamps and stencils to layer the background with a combination of Distress and Distress Oxide Inks.

Eileen Hull Book Club Collection Birthday Card

Hello there! Eileen Hull's Book Club Collection has made its way into the stores now and there are endless possibilities when using it! It's not just for flowery projects. ;-) I made a masculine birthday card for my brother-in-law by layering interesting patterned papers and stamped cuts.

The grey paper stamped with a wood grain pattern is the page part from the Trinket Box die. I cut that  first and then used the Movers & Shapers Book Binding die to cut the notches in the edge. You need the Base Tray (what I have) or the Movers & Shapers Shuttle to use this die.

Washi tape is easy to remove after cutting.

One cutting pad goes under the Base Tray. I positioned the die where I wanted it and used washi tape to make sure the paper didn't shift around. I placed another cutting pad over the top to complete the sandwich and ran it through my Big Shot. Easy!

One of the great things about the Book & Pages, Trinket Box, Frame Die is that it comes with the bonus Movers & Shapers oval die that you can insert into the opening of the frame part. However, if you are going to cut that shape without the oval die (or another M & S die) in the opening, your substrate can get stuck in there because there is nothing underneath to help push it out. If you own other Movers & Shapers base dies (Tim Holtz has designed several) you probably have one of these little magnetic foam blocks around:

Pop that into the opening when you cut and your paper/board should release easily. You can also use a stack of foam squares, foam core board or even a piece of kitchen sponge as well. Winter Hues Birthday Card

Hello there! The Frilly & Funkie blog is having a Winter Hues Challenge and I created a masculine birthday card that takes its color scheme cue from the great wintry outdoors. As I was thinking of card ideas, I remembered a fun card I had made based on Tim Holtz's August Tag of 2015 technique. I decided to revisit it to make this card.

Tim has an excellent tutorial on his blog. I changed things up a bit but the basic background technique is the same.
