Christmas Gift Tags with Topflight Stamps

Hello Topflight Stamps fans! This week we're focusing on Christmas tags, containers or gift card holders. It's always handy to have a stash on hand for the holidays! AALL & Create has some great new die sets available now and they were perfect for combining with festive Lavinia stamps.

I created two large gift tags. The bases are cut using the AALL & Create Die Set Taggletastic. The Merry Christmas sentiment is from the AALL & Create Die Set Season's Cheer and the images are Lavinia stamps Christmas Joy and Eve.

Grand Gift Giving with Eileen Hull

Hello there! One of Eileen's newest dies is the House Ornament Die which has so much potential! For this project, I envisioned it as a cute gift box that is as special as the gift inside. (A double gift? =) )

The size is perfect for small gifts.

This was easy to make! I used her handy Blends inks to color the walls of the house. I find it easier to do this part before assembly. I also glued a bit of lace behind each window to look like curtains. That is definitely easier to do before the house is put together!

You cut the house sides twice. Cut the bottom flap off one of the cuts.

I used the Rooftops die from the Tim Holtz Village series to created the tiles for the rooftop. Easy peasy! I added grass and flowers around the base to give it a little garden. =) I glued the bottom flap of the box in place, figuring I would load the gift in through the top. In retrospect, I probably should have made the top permanently closed instead. Oh well. Both ways work!

Mixed Media Monthly October Mood Board Challenge!

Welcome to October everyone. It's time for everything pumpkin spice and the new challenge over at the Mixed Media Monthly blog! I used the Kitty Squad, Waving Spotted Monster, and Stitched Houses stamps to create this humorous Halloween treat holder:

Who wouldn’t want to receive this cute little box filled with chocolates? (or other candy I suppose if you’re into that sort of thing lol)

This was easy to put together (the hardest part is fussy cutting the stamped images.) I used the Flower Pocket die to cut the container out of Sizzix matboard (it takes ink and media so well!) I stamped the kitties and the monster with black archival ink and then used Distress Markers, Ink and water brushes to color them.

The houses I stamped directly onto the matboard with the archival ink and colored them as well with Distress. After fussy cutting the figures, I attached them to the assembled container and popped the kitties and grass out with foam tape to give them dimension. A diecut moon and few bats finished off my Halloween scene!

Introducing Eileen Hull's New Paper Flower Party Collection!

Hello there! Eileen Hull has a new collection, The Paper Flower Party Collection, that is about to hit stores in May! You can create endless varieties of blooms with the various die sets and the embossing folders complement everything. Check out the awesome projects the Inspiration Team has been sharing on Eileen's blog this month. I have a project to share that I made for CHA back in January. Of course it has no flowers on it but it does use the Flower Pocket die. ;-) It just goes to show you the versatility of Eileen's dies. They can be adapted for any occasion!

I envisioned the Flower Pocket as the perfect little container for packing with holiday treats to give as a gift. It was also very quick and easy to make.

First I cut the pocket out of Sizzles matboard (white). I used Ranger's plain Texture Paste and a snowflake stencil to add the texture. After it was dry, I sprayed the outside with Tumbled Glass Distress Spray Stain and Pearl Perfect Pearls mist. The inside I sprayed with Brushed Pewter and Iced Spruce. I didn't take any step photos in the pre-CHA craziness but this is the same technique I used to decorate this Loaf Pan. Check out that post for step photos and more details.

I punched holes around the edge using my Crop-a-dile punch and threaded crinkle ribbon through them. The tag is cut using Eileen's Kitchen Labels die set – they layer so nicely to make fancy tags.

Quick & Easy Gift Card Holders with Eileen Hull

This is the time of year when I'm always in need of quick and easy yet stylish ways to dress up little gifts. I discovered that Eileen Hull's Luggage Tags die makes a perfect holder for a gift card! I think it's just right tied to a bag of gingerbread biscotti. I hope my son's teacher and class aides think so too! It really is a quick project to make – take a look:

I whipped these up in an afternoon (the baking took longer!) I started off by adhering the patterned paper to a piece of Sizzix Scoreboard. Using my Xyron sticker maker to apply the dry adhesive made it super fast and easy.

Die cut the luggage tag. Make sure the patterned paper side faces down when making your sandwich!

Nice fit! I love it when a plan comes together.

It's easiest to decorate the tags while they are still flat. I used stamping and embossing to jazz these up a bit. A little Distress ink around the edges gives them some nice depth.

Look at how nicely that gift card fits. I wrote a little note under each card on the inside of the tag before I stapled them shut. Make sure the card is pushed right back against the fold when you go to staple it. You can set the staple in about 1/16th of an inch and still have room. The card is in there tightly enough that a single staple holds it firmly in place. If you use a thinner chipboard or cardstock you would probably need to fasten the bottom as well so the card wouldn't fall out. Check it and see!

I thought, why stop now? I like to give a bag of cookies to the bus driver too and thought his gift should look nice as well. Fortunately the Place Card & Flowers die makes a great bag topper! I just cut it out of patterned cardstock, did a little stamping, and cut out the scalloped circle to cover up the "flower" part. (being non-seasonal and all ;-) ) Now the cookies are tasty and festive.

Vintage Kitchen - Quick & Easy Loaf Pan

Hello! I have another quick & easy project using the new Vintage Kitchen line from Eileen Hull. I've dressed up the Loaf Pan die in a different (yet still super easy!) way that is perfect for gift giving. Custom packaging really adds a nice touch and it is so easy to do. Read on to see how I did it!

First I cut the Loaf Pan out of matboard. Then I went to town with a stencil and Ranger Texture Paste. I didn't put much on the bottom and also left the outer flaps clear of paste since those needed to be flat when I glued them in place. Also, if I have Texture Paste or other media going over score lines I usually take my Xacto knife and carefully cut through it before it dries completely. That way it won't crack or tear when I fold everything up.

Next comes the really fun part! Once the paste was dry I spritzed the outside first with Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain and then with Tarnished Brass. I also lightly misted it with water to help the colors blend. It's really nice how the stain catches in the nooks and crannies of the stenciled parts. You could set up a whole assembly line of these if you wanted to make several. I thought I had taken a photo of it after I had sprayed it but I didn't. Oops! Here is a closeup of the finished pan though:

When the outside was dry I flipped it over and sprayed the inside with Barn Door Distress Spray Stain. When I was putting it together I put a dab of glue on the flap and then stapled it in place with my Tiny Attacher (I was going for easy!)

The embellishments are a gold embossed jingle bell cut out of matboard, a label with stamped sentiment, and a sprig of diecut holly. No problem!

Vintage Kitchen - Quick & Easy Gift Idea

Hello everyone! Eileen Hull's new Vintage Kitchen line of dies is shipping now. These dies are perfect for gift giving this holiday season. They make it so easy to whip up cute packaging you can use to make a gift special. Today I'm sharing packaging made with the Loaf Pan die. This was a super quick project to make and would be perfect as a teacher or hostess gift:

 

The patterned paper I used is from a paper stack I got on clearance last January. ;-) The key is to glue the patterned paper to your matboard before you cut anything out. (I like to use Glue 'n Seal.) That way the score blades in the die will cut through your outer paper layer and allow you to properly bend at the scores without it tearing:

 

Fold it up and glue the tabs with a strong, quick grabbing glue. (I love using Api's Crafter's Pick. It will hold anything!) I clamped everything in place while the glue set up – it doesn't take long. You could also punch holes through the tabs and end panels and hold them in place with brads.

That's it! Once the glue is dry you can fill it with goodies and you are ready to go. I also made a quick tag using the Kitchen Labels set from the line.
