Do YOU Know What Yarn Bombing Is?

I didn't until this popped up in our neighborhood a few months ago. It is "knit graffiti" and so much fun! We enjoy having our very own street art close by. Check out this Yarn Bombing blog to learn more, I think it is so cool! Anyway, of course I had to document this and scrap about it. Here you go:

Keep your eyes peeled for examples in your area! =) If you have any fun links to share, put them down in the comments. There are some really creative people out there doing this.

Scrapping Everyday Miracles Challenge #13!

What is your passion in life? That is the subject of the latest challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles. I thought about it and realized that I am most passionate about using my creative talents and making stuff. Painting, drawing, designing, sewing, DIY projects, scrapbooking… I want to turn my ideas into something tangible. It's what makes me tick. I always have ideas and new things I want to try buzzing around in my brain. I could spend all day being creative (darn laundry - who really needs clean clothes ha ha). So what better subject to scrap about. ;-)

The journaling reads:
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been an artsy-craftsy sort with some sort of project going. I loved my art classes in high school and decided to study art & design in college to become a graphic designer so I could be creative in my work. I worked in the Craft Center on campus and taught jewelry making and stained glass classes. A Michael’s gift card is one of the best gifts you can give me. I was born to CREATE. It is my great passion in life and if I don’t have some sort of creative outlet I am a cranky person! God wired me this way and I want to use the gifts and talents He’s given me to do his work and make the world a more beautiful place.

Go check out the SEM blog and join in our challenge! As always, another great prize is up for grabs for a lucky winner. It could be you!

I've Been a Busy Crafty Gal!

Well I've been doing a lot of "plate spinning" but I have managed to get quite a bit of crafty fun in so far this month. I've been participating in the January monthly challenges over at Cookin' Up Creations - a really fun scrapbooking site with fabulous challenges. Their theme this month is "scrap your stash" and since I have quite a stash I've been going to town. Here's one of my favorite layouts that have come out of the challenges:

The main part of the task was to use buttons (check!) and all the supplies I used have been hanging around my craft room for quite a while. I love this photo of Greg too - that was such a fun field trip to see the tidepools.

This is another fun layout (with Gregisms of course). The challenge was to have the journaling be the main focus of your project. It just so happened that I had recently run across a note with this conversation written on it with the ticket stubs to the movie. Perfect!

Greg is such a nut! Well, I'll share more goodies in the near future. Have a good day!

Getting Sketchy

Hello everyone, we have a new sketch challenge and technique up at Scrapping Everyday Miracles! Check it out and if you participate in the challenge, you'll be eligible for a prize.

This sketch is by my talented friend Debbie G and one of the things I like best about it is the chance to use multiple patterned papers! (and I have quite a stash!)

I also like to have texture as a part of my layouts and I found this fun technique where you emboss felt. I used a piece of embossed felt to make the orange tag and gears on my layout below.  Check out this video if you'd like to give it a try. So here is the result of all this scrappy fun:

I encourage you to go join in this challenge at SEM. It is always fun to see how people interpret the sketches. It's nice to have a starting point when you're pressed for time or feeling stuck. =)

Scrapping Everyday Miracles Challenge #12!

Well here we are at the start of a brand new year! Hard to believe I know. Do you have dreams and goals for 2012? If so, you can join in our current challenge and scrap about them (and have a chance to win a fabulous prize!) Check out all the details here. For my take on it, I scrapped about the dreams I have for my son Jon. We were very excited to win a brand new iPad 2 and we are really hoping that it will be a wonderful therapy tool for him. See below:

The journaling reads:
We have heard about how the iPad can be a tremendous and near-miraculous therapy tool for children with motor delays and communication problems. But, we didn’t have one. And they are expensive. We didn’t know if we should somehow try to get our hands on one, but then worried it would just be another waste of money on something that really didn’t work for Jon. Then last Friday Matt purchased two raffle tickets for his company’s big Christmas party give-away they have every year. And this year he won an iPad2. The thought had crossed my mind that just maybe God would see fit to have Matt’s name drawn for the iPad. And He did! We know it is God’s hand working in our lives. And my hope and dream is that this tool will be the thing that really helps Jon progress and gain skills. We are researching the best apps to get. Our mega-tough Survivor iPad case is in the mail. So we will soon see. And I am dreaming, hoping, and very thankful.

This is a hybrid (although mostly digital) layout. The little iPad card that came in the package is the only "traditional" part. I popped it off the printout with foam squares.

I hope you enjoy my layout and be sure to head on over to Scrapping Everyday Miracles to check out what's happening there.
