Show It With Words

Hello! Have you heard about the Show It With Words challenge at the Inspiration Journal this month? It's not too late to enter, you still have a week to share your own creation with us! I made a card with an inspirational quote. As soon as I saw it, this idea for the card popped into my head.

I had a lot of fun playing with texture and color. The starry background started out as white cardstock that I colored with Distress Stains. This is super easy and you can get some great effects. Make some puddles of stain on your non-stick craft sheet and then swipe your background paper through the puddles. I did this a few times, drying the layers in between swipes. I also made my own mist with Chipped Sapphire Distress re-inker and some Perfect Pearls which added a nice dark accent when I spritzed it on. After embossing it with the Starry Night folder I carefully inked the embossed stars with my Brilliance Platinum Planet ink pad to give them a subtle shine and pop them out a bit.

For the moon and stars I took a piece of Grungepaper and dabbed on Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, and Tarnished Brass Distress Paint. The cool thing about this paint is that it's reactive to water. I misted the wet paint and let it bleed and marble together. I noticed that the metallic Tarnished Brass tended to rise to the surface. When the paint was starting to get dry (still tacky) I took a crumpled paper towel and gently blotted parts of my sheet of Grungepaper. It lifted off the top layer of Tarnished Brass and uncovered the yellows underneath, making a really neat texture. After everything was totally dry I cut the moon and stars out and brushed on a layer of the Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint (love that stuff!) The red strip on the bottom is foil sheet covered cardstock that I embossed and then painted with Distress Paints. When it was dry I used a sanding block to remove paint from the raised areas and let the metal show through.

I hope that you will go and check out the challenge over at Inspiration Journal. There is definitely some inspiration going on there!

**Shameless plug alert** I also have some exciting news for me! I was chosen as one of 12 finalists for the Sizzix Who Are You? contest. The choice for the final winner is up for a vote! I humbly ask that you check out the contest and vote for me. ;-) Mine is #7, the flower wreath (which you can learn about here). Here is the contest link. Thank you for your consideration!
