Eileen Hull & Grafix Arts Collaboration – Let's Go to the Zoo!

For February, Eileen Hull’s Creative Team is doing an exciting collaboration with the company Grafix Arts! We’ve been using an assortment of their speciality plastic films and sheets in our Journal projects and the inspiration has been fabulous. Grafix products are widely available in the USA, UK and Europe so we hope you will get some ideas as to how these products can be used. 

Here are the Grafix products I've used in my journal.

I had a lot of fun learning about Grafix products and experimenting (check out their informative YouTube channel!) I created a colorful journal featuring zoo photos from past family trips. The "Sassy" collection of Dura-Lar Prints went perfectly with the theme.

For the cover, I overlaid the collage background with a piece of the leopard spotted Sassy Dura-Lar that I foiled.

To hold the pages, I cut apart this 6-ring binder I found on amazon. The metal spine fits perfectly into the Journal Die cover. I cut off the clear plastic cover and glued the spine into my cover. I also wrapped cord around the metal piece and through holes in the mat board cover for extra security.

I used my computer to created the title & then printed
it out on the Computer Grafix Rainbow Film.

Each page is a combination of collage elements from patterned paper, an old children's picture book, die cuts, stenciling and stamping.

Elephant photo is printed on the Rainbow Film. Nice!

You can cut pieces out of the Dura-Lar Prints sheets to apply them to your projects. I foiled this piece in teal and then adhered it with Grafix Double Tack Mounting Film. It gives you a very clean look.

The giraffe photo I printed on the Computer Grafix Rainbow Film. It looks really sharp!

Paint pens are perfect for coloring on the Grafix plastic films.

Halloween Tunnel Book with Eileen Hull & Tim Holtz

Howdy Eileen fans! I've been working on this tunnel album project all month long and I've finally finished it just in time for Halloween. Whew! Funkie Junkie Focus – Tim Holtz Idea-ology Found Nature

Hello! Our current Funkie Junkie Focus is on the new release of Tim Holtz Idea-ology. There were some great pieces in this collection! I used a Small Etcetera Tag as my base and built from there:

I used  a lot of new and old Idea-ology. It pays to have a stash!

The Salvaged Hearts and Postmarked Sticker Book are both winners for sure! I mixed in Pocket Cards and pieces from various Ephemera packs as well.

One of the smallest sized Vignette Boxes houses some Toadstools and other bits.

I am in love with the new Cello Sticker Tape! Definitely need to stock up on that.

Funkie Junkie Focus – Out of the Vault II

Hello Funkie Junkie fans! Our focus this time is all about the newest Vault release of Tim Holtz Sizzix dies. They've taken die designs from the past and reimagined them by mixing, matching and changing the sizes. Whether you missed them the first time around or just want to expand the possibilities, these die sets are handy! I used the Vault Boutique and Vault Matchbox sets to create a pair of Mother's Day slimline cards for my Mom and Mother-in-law.

I used Gel Press prints from my stash as the backgrounds and layered on stamping and die cut elements. You can find the supplies over at The Funkie Junkie Boutique!

Funkie Junkie Focus – Permanently Perfect

Hello Funkie Junkie fans! Our focus this time is centered on the magic of permanent Archival Ink from Ranger. This ink is a real work horse and definitely a supply you want to have in your crafting arsenal. It is the perfect ink to pair with all sorts of mixed media techniques. Here is my first mixed media tag for the theme:

This layered tag background features diecuts, Distress Crayon and lots of stamping using Archival Ink. (tutorial below)

As I was hunting around in my technique folder for ideas using Archival Ink, I found this one from Tim Holtz's Creative Chemistry classes (way back when!) You stamp with Archival Inks onto Glossy paper as a resist. Tag number two:

Let's take a look at the how-to…

Tag #1:

Step 1 - I cut two big tags out of Mixed Media Heavystock and then die cut patterns out of the top layer tag.

Step 2 - I wanted some stamped images to peek through the die cut areas so I stamped with Archival Ink onto the bottom layer tag.

Step 3 - I glued the two tag layers together and also sealed the top surface with Matte Distress Collage Medium. (Sealing is needed for the next step.)

Step 4 - Using Distress Crayons, I added color to the tag. I blended the Crayons with a damp finger, making sure to get into all the die cut nooks and crannies.

I stamped over the background using the new set Curiosity Shop plus various Glitch stamp sets.

Step 5 - Tim has shared in the past how to add color when you make labels using the Vintage Labels Die Set. It's easy! Use a brayer to add Archival Ink directly to the die before you cut. The ink will transfer onto the paper as you run it through your machine. I do like using the Distress Brayer for this. I have other brands of brayers but the Distress brand seems to be best at picking up the Archival Ink. Experiment with what you have to see what works!

Tag #2:

Step 1 - Using Archival Ink, stamp with bright colors onto glossy paper. Heat dry the ink to make sure it doesn't smear.

Love the new Crochet Trims stamp set!

Step 2 - Blend a darker Distress Ink color over the background. Buff off the extra ink with a soft cloth. The Archival Ink acts as a resist. Cool background! You can stamp over the background with additional images and using more Archival Ink.

Funkie Junkie Focus – "Finish It" Undone Projects

It's not quite spring (at least not around here, it's been snowing all day). However, you might be in the mood for some spring cleaning! It has taken a crafty turn for our current Funkie Junkie Focus theme which is "Finish It" – take an uncompleted project and finish it off. I partially completed a junk journal in June of 2022 and then it and all the stuff I had collected for it looked like this until now:

I still had two signatures worth of pages left to fill to complete the journal. You can find the first post about it here. Here is the outside:

The journal structure was created using Eileen Hull's Folio Journal Die and filled with all sorts of stamping, ephemera and die cuts. Here's a sampling of some of the new inside pages:

I had previously added some Waterfall flips to the inside cover but hadn't decorated them yet.

I did do a tutorial for putting the cover together in my first post. Here are a few in process photos from my journey in finishing up the other pages:

 It's quite a chaotic crafty scene! Lots of scraps and bits all over the place ha ha.

I decorate all the pages, front and back, before binding them together. It is much easier that way!

Elastic binding makes it really easy to add the pages. You just slide them under the elastic.
