Camping Memories Tag Album + Eileen Hull's Vintage Truck Die

Hello there folks! I have a new project to share with you today. Back in April with Eileen Hull's Chapter 2 Sizzix release, we met the 3-D Camper Box Die and I used it to make a holder for a tag album commemorating many of our family's past camping trips. (Find that post HERE.) For Chapter 3, Eileen released a fabulous 3-D Vintage Truck Box Die that matches the Camper! I knew I had to make a companion piece for the Camper project, especially since I wasn't able to fit our more current camping trips into that tag album.

How cute is that little red truck? It's such a versatile die.

The tag album fits right in the box.

Here are some peeks at the insides of the tag album. I used a ton of stamps and die cuts to bring home the nature theme.

 A few notes on the truck construction:

I spritzed both sides of two pieces of Sizzix mat board with Distress Oxide Spray Fired Brick and regular Distress Spray in Crackling Campfire and Aged Mahogany. The oxide spray gave it a wonderful aged mottled look. After cutting out my truck pieces, I sealed them with a coating of Distress Micro Glaze. On top of that, I dabbed on embossing ink and then covered all the parts with Eileen's Glistening Glass clear embossing powder.

Truck parts I cut for your reference. (Check this past post for more truck assembly instructions.) I didn't make a hood for this truck so I'd have more room to fit my tag album.

Patriotic 4th of July Decor - the Tutorial!

Did you catch the Release Party & Blog Hop last week for Eileen Hull's brand new Sizzix dies? We had a fun time (watch the replay) and the Blog Hop was packed full of inspiring makes from the Teams! Eileen has three new dies in her Chapter 3 release:

The Vintage Truck Die pairs perfectly with the 3-D Camper Die from the Chapter 2 release and I had a vision of making a patriotic decoration for Independence Day!

A closer look…

Let's see how it all came together!

Step 1 - Truck Parts: I covered the matboard with Rinea Foil Paper before I cut out the parts. If you are covering your board with paper, don't forget to think about which side will be up and the way it should face as you cut your parts!

Step 2 - Truck Assembly: Before I glued the parts together, I used the Rinea Ghost Ink Reinker ink to remove some of the color from the foil paper to distress it. Their Ghost Ink Pad and Reinker ink react with the color on their foil paper and you can get some very interesting effects using it. I squeezed a drop of the ink onto my craft mat and then used a makeup sponge to gently dap some ink onto the edges of the truck parts. You just wait 10 - 20 seconds and then wipe the color away, exposing the silver base foil. Easy!

Step 3 - Truck hood: After I put together the truck, I decided I really wanted to add a hood. This is what I came up with and hand cut/scored.

Step 4 - Filling the back of the truck: I used crumpled blue tissue paper and stars to fill the back of the truck. I covered the 3-D star with Eileen's Golden Rod Molten Dimensions Embossing Powder (love how it looks!)

Step 5 - Camper Trailer Parts:

I forgot to cut out a 2nd base side flap so the photo
only shows one. You need 2!

Step 6 - Ghost Stamping: I used the Rinea Ghost Ink Pad to lift the blue off of the trailer side panels. I used a stamping platform because it took 2 or 3 "stampings" to remove all the blue. (Wipe off your stamp each time!)

Parts ready to assemble! There is that 2nd base side flap.

Step 7 - Gluing the trailer together: I like to use a quick grab wet glue for assembling so I have a bit of play time to get parts aligned correctly before it sticks. Strong dry tape works well too though. Glue guns can work but it is easy to get bulky hot glue in the seams and they don't lay flat.

Step 8 - Working on the base: I cut out trees (on the Truck Die) from red and blue cardstock for my scene. I also added some red and blue Stickles for some extra bling.

I found the wooden box at a garage sale and grabbed it for its potential. ;-) Good find I say! I made an insert of foam core and covered it with patterned paper.

The back is half of the largest Party Fans cut and glued to a piece of matboard.

As a final touch, I used the Tapered Fringe Strip Die to cut some 'grass' to tuck around my paper trees. I also used some buttons and bottle brush trees from my stash to add some more details.

Blog Hop Release Party - Eileen Hull's Ch. 3 Sizzix Dies!

 

Celebrate every day with these versatile Chapter 3 Sizzix dies! Although themed as a holiday collection, just think of how many ways you can decorate these dies to celebrate every season of the year, simply by changing out the paper and colors!

The Truck and Camper pair are a match made in heaven. Set it on the mantel, (paired with the Camper Die!), hang on the tree, fill with treats or create your holiday cards with them. The Ornament Box may be used several ways – use the circle shapes separately as ornaments or build up the sides and add treats, snacks and gifts. Decorate the box with elements from the Thinlits Wreath & Snowflake dies or use those elements in your journals, tags, pages and pockets! You will want them all!

And now for some other views of my little camper project…

The base is a Tim Holtz Vignette box I covered.

The tag album is full of so many memories!

I used Eileen's new Waterfall die to cut flaps so I could 
layer photos on a single tag. The die made it really easy!

Speaking of easy, the 3-D Camper Die is easy to put together and has so many possibilities!

Step 1 – Cut out the pieces from matboard or chipboard. You will need to cut two sets of the camper sides, two sets of wheels, one bottom panel and two of the "ends" for the bottom panel. I used Eileen's Molten Dimensions Aqua Splash embossing powder to cover the decorative panels on the camper sides. I also ran the main body parts through an embossing folder to give them some ridged texture.

Here you can see I've glued the two end parts to the bottom panel.

Step 2 – I glued all the decorative parts to the camper sides. I also applied a little of Sizzix's new Silver Luster Wax to the raised parts of the embossed sides. It gives it a nice little shine! I also glued the bottom assembly to the back. Once it was dry, I glued on the front and then the tires.

Step 3 – the base is a Tim Holtz Vignette box I covered with paper. You can also see that I covered the camper tires with Molten Dimensions embossing powder Black Magic and Polished Silver. (I did that before I glued them on.)

Step 4 – making the tag album. This took awhile lol! The construction is simple though. I cut many many tags and connected them together with washi tape hinges on both sides. I added a bit of glue under the tape so it would hold better. (I don't trust the washi adhesive on its own.) You can make the album as small or as big as you like, just keep adding tags. ;-)
