Well, my Tim Holtz
Luminary die jumped off my shelf and demanded to be used! I just love this die. Fortunately I had a good idea for an Easter themed luminary so I obliged. ;-)
I like these luminaries to have a "home" so I made a base for it. The bottom is a square of corrugated cardboard that I covered with patterned paper. I constructed a second tier out of bristol board and patterned paper and glued it on top of the bottom layer.
I cut two crosses out of chipboard and glued them together. I used the
Emboss It Dabber to cover the cross with embossing ink and then used gold embossing powder all over it. It makes a nice focal point of the luminary. Two different sources inspired the flowers. The first are the flowers Tim Holtz made for his
April tag. They are created using the
Tattered Pinecone die (yes, it's not just for pinecones!) Check out his post for a video and instructions. The
enameled metal flowers were shared by Tammy Tutterow on her blog a while back. She recently made this available as a printable download if you'd like it in a handy hard-copy format. Either way, it is a fabulous technique you can apply to any metal embellishments. I have been using the
Spring Greenery die A LOT lately too. It is so versatile and pairs wonderfully with various flower dies. Here's another view:
One last technique to share. I wanted to have more touches of gold, so I made
gilded glassine using green alcohol inks and gold mixative on Glassine Paper. I used it to cut leaves out of with the Spring Greenery die. It adds a subtle shimmer.
I hope you've been inspired by my project. I do love the luminaries, there are so many different ways to decorate them; it's one of my favorite dies. Easter is also one of my favorite holidays. Because of what happened at Easter 2000 years ago I have hope and an assurance of my salvation. You can have that hope too. You are loved and Jesus died and rose again so everyone who chooses Him can be saved. It's the best news ever!
