Karen Burniston Accordion Rectangle Card

This past weekend we had the pleasure of going down to Southern California to help celebrate my nephew's first birthday! What fun! He enjoyed his cake very much and we loved seeing everyone. Of course I had to make him a spiffy birthday card. It's not every day a guy turns a whole year old. ;-) I've been itching to make another card using the Accordion Rectangle die (see my first one here) and this was the perfect opportunity! I love the interactive quality of Karen's dies.

You can hook several of these panels together and make the card as long as you want! I covered the frames with Tissue Tape and painted over it. The center panels are a combination of paint and embossing. I just love the new Robots Blueprints stamps from Tim Holtz. They are so much fun.

Inspiration Journal May Challenge – Pasted!

Yep, the May challenge over at Inspiration Journal is in full swing and you can join in for a chance to win $50 to spend at Inspiration Emporium! The theme this month is Pasted! and we want to see what you can do with some sort of embossing paste incorporated into your project. I made a Mother's Day card for mine:

Ever since I saw Shelly Hickox's super cool double embossing technique she used for her Dog Tag necklace, I've wanted to try it out. (See her post for complete instructions.) She used aluminum flashing as the base for her pendant. I covered a piece of heavy cardstock with a foil sheet for my "metal" substrate. I used various Wendy Vecchi blue embossing powders as my base embossed layer and white embossing powder over the stenciled Texture Paste. I wanted to create more of a "vintage china" feel since this was a card for my Grandma. She isn't into grunge lol. Here's a detail of the embossing part:

Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge #27 - Embossing Diffusers

Well here I am again getting these cards entered right under the wire! It's been a busy time lately and I haven't had much opportunity for craftiness. But I did have an excellent reason to carve out some time after all – I needed Mother's Day cards!! This was a perfect challenge to incorporate for them. You can find out how to use the diffusers on page 61 of Tim Holtz's book, A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 3. That book is chock-full of great ideas and techniques! Linda Ledbetter over at the Studio L3 blog has been hosting these fab challenges based on the book for months now. I can't believe how many we've done! I can't tell how to use the diffusers 'cause that would be breaking the rules, but they are pretty darn cool and I need to use them more often! I hope my Mom and Mother-in-law will enjoy their cards on Sunday.
