Darkroom Door had such wonderful designs (stock up while they are still available!) I went with a favorite, the Butterfly Garden stamp. Used in the background, Tracy Evan's Fern stamp set paired perfectly with it.

Darkroom Door Christmas Card with Topflight Stamps!

Merry Christmas everyone! It's almost here! I'm still crafting away on Christmas projects, even cards to mail (although I don't think they will arrive at their destinations until after Christmas, oops. Better late than never!) Here is a card I made using the Darkroom Door Pine Cones Stamp Set.

Lisa Hoel for Topflight Stamps - Christmas Card made with Darkroom Door stamps

I really love the Pine Cones set. It has a great selection of realistic pine cones and needles. Perfect for woodsy projects and of course Christmas cards! I used Distress Inks because I wanted to utilize their reactivity to water. Using a stamping platform, I first stamped the pinecone in the lighter brown (Brushed Corduroy) and spritzed it lightly with water so it would wick out. After drying it, I stamped over the top with the darker brown for detail. I like the watercolor effect of the wicking. Next I masked off the pine cones and stamped the pine needles. It's a quick and easy card! This design wouldn't be too hard to mass produce if you wanted to make many of them for mailing out.

Topflight Stamps - You Can Still Hop Along & A New Card

It's not too late!! You can still participate in the Birthday Blog Hop (through April 8th) for a chance to win the grand prize and other prizes drawn from each designer's blog comments. Go to the main hop post on the Topflight Stamps blog to get started!

Today I have a spring card to share with you made with one of the wonderful Darkroom Door Collage Stamps and their resist crayon.

I was inspired by Lindsay Weirich's video about the resist technique she used for the Collage Stamps and crayon. (Watch it and you'll get some great tips!) After stamping the image onto watercolor paper with archival ink, I watercolored the butterflies yellow and the ferns green. I added the resist crayon over the areas I had painted on the ferns and over some parts of the yellow painted wings on the butterflies. I went back over the butterflies with orange paint and the crayon preserved yellow portions by resisting the orange.

The crayons are softer than standard 'school' crayons and cover well.

I added some more crayon over the butterflies again and as a final step, I painted a wash of blue over the whole thing for the background. It was really easy with the resist protecting the ferns and butterflies. I went right over the top and the colors didn't get muddied.

PaperArtsy with Topflight Stamps

Hello! I'm back with another card to share with you today. =) This time I got to play with my new Distress Oxide Sprays for the background (love them!) and PaperArtsy products which are always a treat.

I spritzed and squooshed (that's a word right? lol) the Oxide Spray to form the background. I created a whole stack of different backgrounds in my experimentations. (Hurray, for future projects!) I added some stenciling with Distress Oxide Ink and then stamped the flowers. It has a definite spring feel.

Winter Tree with Topflight Stamps

Hello! Still working on Christmas projects? Once again I have more ideas than time. ;-) I created this project to be more of a 'winter' theme so I can leave it out past Christmas.

This MDF tree kit comes with all sorts of papers and embellishments to use with the tree. I used the cardstock woodland creature embellishments from the kit to add to my scene.

Here's a few tips!

I decided not to cover the tree with paper. I wanted to create a more mixed media look. I started by covering the MDF with a coat of gesso to seal it and prepare the surface.

Then I used some of the Infusions Dye to color the surfaces. You never know quite what you will get from the dye crystals. The color patters are interesting and the dye crystals are very concentrated! A little goes a loooooong way. Once the dye was dry I stamped the pine needles onto all the surfaces with archival ink and heat set it. Then I stamped and embossed the Winter Scene around the base of the tree panels. After assembling the tree and inserting it into the base (I had to sand a bit to get the trunk to fit into the slots on the base) I applied the snow texture paste all around the base surface. Using a strong wet glue, I glued the other elements in place while the snow texture paste was wet and then sprinkled all the exposed snow surfaces with glitter. Some die cut snowflakes completed the look!

Christmas Tags with Topflight Stamps

Hello and welcome to the holiday season! Happy Thanksgiving if you are here in the US and hang onto your warm fuzzy hats because Christmas is right around the corner! I have a tag and its tutorial to share with you today. I bleached loads of pine cones to sell at a craft bazaar this fall and I wanted to make tags to put on the bags. I wanted them to be festive but fairly simple since I had to make so many of them! The Darkroom Door Pine Cones stamp set was just what I needed. Added bonus: the bottom part is perforated so you can tear it off and be left with a gift tag for another use.

The bleached pine cones are perfect for decorating with and make a nice change from regular brown cones.

Here's the how-to:

Step 1 – I cut tags out of old manila folders. (You can buy pre-made tags too.) Assembly line tactics are key here. I laid down an initial layer of background color and texture by squishing Antique Linen Distress Stain onto my craft mat and then applying it to the tags with a brayer. It makes a cool streaky effect.

Step 2 –  More texture was added with random stamping with the Crackle Background stamp and Pale Ochre ink.

Step 3 – Mask sheets are a Tim Holtz product that has been discontinued which is too bad because it's really useful! There must be a similar product out there so look around if you can't find these somewhere. I stamped the pine cone onto the mask sheet with archival ink and then cut it out with fine tipped scissors. Then I stamped the pinecone in place on the tag and covered it with the mask in preparation for stamping the needles.

Step 4 – I stamped the pine needles twice with 'full strength' ink and once with the residual ink left on the stamp to make a lighter green area behind the pine cone.

Step 5 – Finishing the tag…
I made the description/price tag using a graphics program and printed them out on kraft label paper. I cut them out and stuck them onto the bottoms of the tags. About an 1/8th of an inch above the edge of the label, I used the perforation tool to inscribe a perforated line. When it's bent at the line it will rip right off so all the 'commercial' stuff is removed.

As a final step, I used a Ground Espresso Distress Marker and the Marker Spritzer to add a splatter of dark speckles over all the tags.

NOTE: All week long Topflight Stamps is having a daily deal sale! Today you can get Gel Printing Texture Plates for 25% off! Check it out and keep an eye on the site to see what the rest of the deals are. ;-)

Father's Day Card with Darkroom Door

Father's Day is coming right up! I finished the last card I need today. Whew! I like not being last minute. ;-) I used the Tool Shed stamp set from Darkroom Door and a bunch of Tim Holtz products:

The background is stamped with a wood grain pattern and I also embossed some card stock with the Rulers embossing folder (along with adding copper embossing powder to the raised areas). I stamped a manila tag with various Distress Ink colors and all those great tool stamps from the Tool Shed stamp set.

Topflight Stamps is having a flash sale on masculine stamps that is running through TONIGHT, 12am EST (June 8th) I'm just catching the tail end of the sale, but if you hurry you can take advantage of it still. ;-)
